This striking image comes from the Jahangir Album assembled painstakingly for the great Mughal ruler Jahangir, who ruled Northern India, from 1605-1627. Jahangir was a great connoisseur of art, and he is known to have commissioned miniatures and calligraphy by the greatest artists from around the region.
