Abstract Art Workshop (For Kids)

A kid-friendly abstract art workshop led by formalist artist, designer, and abstract expressionist, Nagiya Moideen. For each session, students will be able to learn different abstract techniques and take home their own abstract masterpiece.
Dates: 4, 11, 18 and 25 Nov 2023
Timings: 3 pm to 4 pm
Location: Cass Art Qatar, Fire Station
Age: 9 to 12 years old

Workshop Outline:
Session 1: Introduction to abstract art's freedom; Guided acrylic painting exploration; Spontaneous mark making and; Creation of the first abstract masterpiece on canvas.
Session 2: Explore the world of colours and emotions; Expand mark making with vibrant hues; Express emotions and stories through colour on canvas and; Discuss the importance of colour choices in art.
Session 3: Explore texture in abstract art; Experiment with texture-building techniques; Create tactile compositions on canvas and; Reflect on the artworks' qualities.
Session 4: Selecting one canvas for refinement and development; Guided abstract storytelling and; Share personal artistic journeys.

About the Artist:
Nagiya Moideen is a formalist artist and designer based in Qatar. She holds a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from VCUarts Qatar. As an artist of expressive contemporary abstraction. In her work, colour functions as a language, and abstraction serves to express her unique artistic voice.
Nagiya’s exhibitions have been showcased at the Qatar International Art Festival at the Katara Cultural Foundation (2019), the National Museum of Qatar as part of the Asian Dialogue Exhibition (2019), the Katara Art Center's 'Colors of Desert' exhibition (2019), Parallels in Qatar Foundation (2017), Strange Wonder in Msheireb Museums (2016) exhibition, among many others.
