Al Zubarah Archaeological Site
Al Zubarah Archaeological Site
Inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List In 2013, Al Zubarah is one of the most complete and well-preserved examples of a pearl trading town in the Gulf. Founded in 1760 on the north-western coast of Qatar, the settlement flourished over the following decades, until it was destroyed in an attack in 1811 and eventually completely abandoned. This book showcases the history of the site and the ongoing work by Qatar Museums on the conservation and excavation of the town. Highlights include the remains of a palatial compound and what was once a busy souq, in addition to many objects and tools revealing the extent of its trading networks.
