Rubaiyat Qatar: One Tiger or Another - Battle of Pollilur India Postcard (A5)

QR 1.00

Inspired by the famous Battle of Pollilur which took place in 1780 between the Kingdom of Mysore and the British East India Company. The postcard is a replica of the painting at the Museum of Islamic Art, depicting Tipu Sultan’s victorious battle against the British. The battle resulted in Tipu’s victory and marked the worst loss for the British East India Company in India at the time. Tipu Sultan, who remains a divisive historical figure, is also known as the Tiger of Mysore.

This postcard is part of the Rubaiyat Qatar Exhibition, which mixes cutting-edge contemporary art production with more traditional historical research as a way of exploring the creative potential of art. The historical part of the collection is augmented by a display of modern and contemporary objects that chart the shifting historical treatment of Tipu as hero and villain.
