This set of four rustic coasters is sure to have your guests wondering about the story behind the doors that are depicted on them. Bringing forth the feeling of longing for the olden days of Qatar for those that knew it as it once was, these kinds of beautiful doors were a much more common sight. Today, however, the fast-paced development is making it harder and harder to still spot them. Aisha Fakhroo, the artist that created the original paintings of the doors depicted on the coasters, is passionate about documenting the heritage of Qatar’s days gone by. Mal Lawal, Arabic for “from the old days,” is Qatar Museums’ community-led contributions shaped biennale, that draws a connection between the old – the private collections that exist in Qatar – and the new, the original works of art being created by Qatari artists today. While the exhibition promotes the importance of acquiring and developing a personal collection that will benefit future generations, it also offers citizens and residents unique souvenirs reminiscent of the old days.
