Coasters feature celestial symbols adapted from a beautiful late 19th–early 20th century Indonesian ceremonial mat, or lampit. Such refined mats were designed for spiritual leaders who presided over important ritual gatherings, woven from finely split cane fibers and adorned with burnt patterns made with a heated stylus. The lampit in The Met collection features crescent moons amid birds in flight to suggest the timeless relationship between Indonesia's elite rulers and the universe's cosmic order. Part of "The Shape of Time: Art and Ancestors of Oceania from the Metropolitan Museum of Art" collection at the National Museum of Qatar Gift Shop. Diameter: 10cm Material: Lacquered wood Care Instructions: Wipe clean
