Bring a little piece of old Doha into your home with this set of two placemats, depicting paintings of six rustic doors that still adorn houses in Qatar. The placemats are easy to clean, just wipe them with a wet wipe when done using them. Aisha Fakhroo, the artist that created the original paintings of the doors depicted on the placemats, is passionate about documenting the heritage of Qatar’s days gone by. Mal Lawal, Arabic for “from the old days,” is Qatar Museums’ community-led contributions shaped biennale, that draws a connection between the old – the private collections that exist in Qatar – and the new, the original works of art being created by Qatari artists today.

While the exhibition promotes the importance of acquiring and developing a personal collection that will benefit future generations, it also offers citizens and residents unique souvenirs reminiscent of the old days.
