Mal Lawal 3 Bookmark - Purple Door

Never again will you forget where you last stopped your reading with this metallic purple door bookmark. A nod to Qatar’s days gone by, it depicts a painting of a beautiful old door. Back in the days there were many such stunning doors gracing buildings around Qatar, however today they are disappearing, as the new high-rises fast replace the older houses. Aisha Fakhroo, the artist that created the original painting depicted on this bookmark, is passionate about documenting the sights of old Qatar. Mal Lawal, Arabic for “from the old days,” is Qatar Museums’ community-led contributions shaped biennale, that draws a connection between the old – the private collections that exist in Qatar – and the new, the original works of art being created by Qatari artists today. While the exhibition promotes the importance of acquiring and developing a personal collection that will benefit future generations, it also offers citizens and residents unique souvenirs reminiscent of the old days.
