A bookmark inspired by the "Illuminated folio of a Qur’an in kufic script" (Abbasid period, late 3rd century AH/late 9th century CE), part of the Baghdad: Eye's Delight exhibition at the Museum of Islamic Art. Illumination started appearing prominently in Abbasid Qur’ans made for affluent patrons, as in the case of this folio, with the sura heading in a gold panel flanked by a large floral decoration on the margin.
