Dugongs have inhabited the waters around Qatar’s peninsula for over 7,500 years and today the area is home to some of the biggest herds in the world numbering between 600 and 700 members.

NMoQ chose the dugong at its mascot in order to further emphasize its commitment to environmental awareness and sustainability, as the lovely creatures are sadly threatened by extinction, due to environmental degradation, commercial fishing and vessel strikes.
