The bold and simple pattern on this bespoke tote bag is inspired by a velvet cushion cover from the Ottoman Empire. The Carnation motif originated in Turkey, and was quite popular during the Ottoman Empire. This decorative motif of a single carnation flower was used in a repeated fashion and offset against a contrasting background.
