Handmade by traditional Javanese shadow puppet artisans, the leather is stretched and sun dried, each hole punched individually, each blade hand painted, taking true craft to create this unique detailed piece. Pu Bu Me Su fashion accessories, created by Indonesian designer Putri Bunga Meita Soediono, specialise in handcrafted leather bags and fans with a traditional touch. The technique used to make the fan comes from the age-old Javanese tradition of creating leather shadow puppets for wayang kulit (a form of shadow puppet theatre). Cattle hide was sanded down till it became hard, and hand painted to represent items like the banana leaves in this fan.
