This miniaturised replica is made by Hemisferium – a Spanish producer specialising in the manufacture of ancient scientific instruments. Used back in the day for telling time and the apparent movement of stars, its origins can be traced to 9th century Alexandria, after which it was improved by the Arabs and Persians and eventually brought to Spain in the 10th century, from where it spread around Europe.
