This product is a replica of a nocturnal and tidal computer from 1570, made by Humphrey Cole, who was an English maker of scientific instruments as well as an engraver. The original piece can today be found on display at the British Museum in London. Tidal calculators were used to determine the timing of tides, which have a major impact on navigation planning and fishing activities. The nocturnal part of the item is also known as the star clock and can be used to ascertain the time at nigh by using the positions of the stars.
