Taysir Batniji: No Condition is Permanent postcard (A5)

An A5 postcard displaying a bar of soap with the engraving “No condition is permanent”. The postcard accompanies Taysir Batniji’s exhibition of the same name on display at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art. The artist who hails from Palestine dedicates his work and finds inspiration in the state of his homeland, to which he cannot return. The work that is displayed on the postcard is in its original form a collection of soap bars on a pallet, with all of them carrying an inscription in Arabic, meant to comfort and remind a person that all pain is transient. However, Batniji contrasts this hopeful message by choosing a medium that by its very nature quickly dissipates, thus highlighting the fragility of hope for better days to come.
